It's that time of year for Seasonal Mood Disorder

by Dr Mercola

You Can Use Simple Light Rays to Enhance Your Health
Without getting into any complicated physics, light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. On one end of the spectrum, we have UV or ultraviolet light at 280 to 400 nm (a nanometer is a millionth of a millimeter).

In the middle, we have what is known as the visible light spectrum at about 400 to 700 nm. The visible light spectrum contains colors that range from violet to blue to green to yellow to orange to red.

Red light is quite important for health reasons, as you'll soon see.

And on the right side of the electromagnetic spectrum, we have infrared light. These invisible rays of natural sunlight have a longer wavelength.

I'm sure you've heard about health benefits from ultraviolet light (I'll review them for you shortly).

However, you can also...

Tap the Power of Infrared Light to Increase Circulation and Relieve Minor Pain and Stiffness
You may also have heard infrared referred to by its other name -- radiant heat. Any kind of heat you can feel from a distance has been transported by infrared rays.

It doesn't matter if it is heat from the sun, from a stove, a light bulb, or even another person.

Infrared is quite different from ultraviolet light. It's a form of energy that heats objects directly. This process is called conversion. One reason it's different is because it doesn't have to heat the air in between the heat source and the object.

Without going into the more complicated aspects of physics, infrared is able to penetrate more deeply than other parts of the light spectrum (to a depth of about 1.2 to 1.6 inches) -- and stimulate your body cells.

Now, when light interacts with tissue (or any material), you can think of it as containing those little energy packets called photons. And your skin has the ability to take these photons of infrared light from the sun or from other sources, and use them to stimulate cellular regeneration.

You probably aren't aware that infrared light raises your white blood cell count, improves your cell growth, or causes DNA or protein synthesis in your cells.

However, I imagine you do find it interesting that infrared light in this range from 700-2000 nm has been known to:

Produce temporary relief of muscular pain and spasm...
Relieve your mild and occasional joint aches and stiffness...
Provide a comforting feeling of penetrating warmth...
Stimulate your blood flow and circulation...
Invigorate your metabolism...
And much more...
Have you ever noticed that sometimes, just lying out in the sun's warmth makes you feel a bit better? Well...

Using Infrared Light to Enhance Wellness is Not New
In fact, your own palms emit infrared energy at between 8-14 microns.

The Chinese have practiced traditional palm healing for 3,000 years based on the properties of these natural infrared rays. Both Chi Gong masters and the Yogis in India have used palm healing. In some cultures and religious rituals, this is known as 'healing by the laying on of hands'.

With today's advancing technology there are much more advanced methods of producing infrared rays.

Infrared Light Rays have Brought Temporary
Pain and Stiffness Relief to Millions
You can get some infrared energy from the sun itself.

However, there are other ways to receive infrared light rays. These range from simple inexpensive hand-held gizmos and heating pads that produce a few infrared rays to expensive 'chi machines', infrared LED light devices, even infrared saunas.

I've tried a few of these myself. And as you can imagine, the quality and effectiveness varies greatly. However, millions of people have used these devices to achieve comforting heat and some measure of temporary relief from pain and stiffness.

But there's more. Infrared is only one of the 3 types of light with health-enhancing effects.

What about those Health Benefits from Ultraviolet Light?
If you've spent any time on my site, you're probably aware of the importance of ultraviolet or UV light to your health.

The sun's UVB rays are crucial to help your body produce vitamin D.

And when it comes to UVA, these rays not only help you produce a tan, but also naturally protect your body from sunburn and can actually help protect you from overdosing on vitamin D produced from too much UVB.

Of course, it is my strong belief that the best way to get your vitamin D is through direct and appropriate sunlight exposure on your skin. The problem is that you may not be receiving ample sunlight where you live. If you live in a colder climate, work indoors, or don't spend adequate time in the sun, you may not be generating the vitamin D you need.

In fact, your vitamin D levels may plummet more than 50% in the winter.

Aside from natural sunlight, there are 2 other practical ways to obtain the vitamin D you need.

You can use supplementation with vitamin D3.

However, if you choose to go this route, make sure you have your vitamin D levels tested regularly to make sure you do not take too much of it. You and your physician need to be aware of your vitamin D levels, so you can adjust your supplementation accordingly.

Your third alternative is to use a tanning system that utilizes UV-B rays to provide you with a way to help you naturally produce the vitamin D your body needs and receive all the benefits I have been talking about here for many years.

The reason this matters is because vitamin D provides support for:

The health of your immune system...
A healthy cardiovascular system...
Your prostate, if you are male...
Your healthy skin...
And much more than I can list here...
Plus, based on my years of study and clinical experience, it is my firm belief that avoiding the sun's UV rays can have detrimental effects on your health. In fact, I've come to believe that vitamin D deficiency is a growing epidemic.

So UV and infrared light are both beneficial to you.

In addition...

Here's the Third Type of Light that Can Help Enhance Your Health: Red Light
Another unique type of beneficial light is red light from the visible spectrum in the 633 nm wavelength.

Exposure to light in this range naturally stimulates your skin cells to produce collagen, elastin and enzymes that provide support for your skin.

As you age, collagen and elastin break down, leading to wrinkles and lines in your once-firm skin. And if you smoke or have a poor diet, this process can move faster.

Red light in this 633 nm range can not only improve the texture, hydration and tone of your skin -- it can also help give you a more youthful appearance.

Now, you've seen how important all three of these light forms are to your overall health and wellbeing

Principles of Light

By James Clair Lewis

The Most Infinite & Transcendental separated itself into uncountable tiny parts, which fell into the illusions of separation & darkness. Each of us is God's Dream. Don't let that Dream become a nightmare....

I've found that literal interpretations of scriptures, lead to nonsense. Only from the context of Mystical experience can one make sense out of them. The qualities of serenity, compassion, humility, & wisdom proceed from an inner Realization, and otherwise, it really doesn't matter, what you believe or think. Scriptures are like a pointing finger. The question is, are you going to stare at the finger, or are you going to investigate what the finger is pointing at?

An Atheist once said to me, "If your life is to have any value, then you must put it there." I like that a lot. It didn't bother me a bit that he didn't believe in God, because it was obvious, through his conduct in life, that he was much closer to God, than most people who do believe. And in that, you will find the context of what really matters. When people live in serenity, and practice compassion & love in the conduct of their lives, they are demonstrating the Essence that inspired religions in the first place. And that is certainly more fundamental than any scriptures.

Time spent in anger, is time you cannot spend in love. Time spent in sorrow, is time you cannot spend in joy. Time spent in destroying, is time you cannot spend creating. Time spent in learning, is time you cannot spend being foolish. Time spent in healing, creates time you can spend in health. Time spent in meditation, enables you to see clearly enough, so that you will not waste any time.

On the Spirtitual Plane everyone knows what the Truth is. However, the more disconnected one is to their Real Self, the more one needs to justify whatever gobbledegook they have substituted for the Truth. How else can they prove to themselves that they believe whatever nonsense that they believe, than by attacking anyone who believes differently than they do? This is why Fundamentalists of any religion are always so quick to resort to violence & terrorism.

On the other hand, the more one is connected to their Real Self, the more one is prone toward tolerance & compassion. Regardless of what Spiritual Tradition to which one adheres, the closer to Enlightenment one gets on their Path, the more one will enjoy discussing the process of how to become Illuminated with people who are working towards this through other Paths. Each of the Great Traditions is stronger than the others, in some aspect of this. When we put them all together, then the Key will turn in the lock, and we will all know the Truth.

When a soul chooses to move toward the Light, the darkness that has previously, been draining their energies to sustain the darkness, must assert itself to maintain its dominion. So everything seems to fall apart in your life, nothing that you desire to accomplish seems to come into fruition, and all of your efforts appear to be fruitless. That is the appearance of things in the material world. Do not be diverted from the goal by the manefestations of appearances as circumstances. You are a part of the Eternal, and partake of the Perfection of Life. Within you exist all of the Laws of Creation. Your part is to use your human Imagination to express the creative possibilities.

We can be said to exist on four planes simultaneously. Development comes along on these four planes, the Physical, the Astral, the Mental, and the Spiritual. Things work out best when we proceed along each of these planes simultaneously. Religions offer beliefs, doctrines, and dogma. Spirituality offers experience, knowledge & wisdom. Seeking externally, people go to religion. Seeking internally, people go to Spirituality. Spiritual people find the Power within themselves, and have no need to oppress anyone. Those who do not know this, must steal from others, to fill a void that can never be satisfied. A fool thinks only of the pleasures of the moment. The wise comtemplate both the far past & the far future, and thereby see what is of real value.

The most valuable thing in the world, and also, the most elusive, is the Balance Point. It lies between not seeing what is right in front of you, and seeing things that really are not there. To find this Clear Light, you must learn to rely, only upon yourself, and the Infinite resources within you. There is a great & wonderful power within you, capable of attaining any worthy goal. Learning the Divine Laws by which the Universe operates, learning how to live in harmony with them, and how to operate them, is a great task, but it is the Key to attaining anything which is worth having. When you desire something, you must put forth the effort needed to make it happen. Getting to know the Divine within yourself, and also within everything else, is it own reward. And it is a great reward of Serenity, Compassion, Knowledge, Wisdom, & Joy. These are the things for which you should pray.

It is not about the words we use. It is about our conduct, and how much we understand. On the Astral plane, everything is a symbol. Contemplate the symbols, until you see their meanings. Then the symbols vanish, and you can experience the meanings directly, and comprehend the Essences. Never underestimate the power of imagination. When the power of imagination is released, Magickal things become possible. Your consciousness is creative, gravitating conditions into your life according to Divine Laws.

The mind likes to be in control. It likes to fill itself with all kinds of thoughts, going around & around. When you meditate, you still the mind. In meditation you deliberately ignore the flow of thought. Your consciousness takes control of the mind for a change, and you can bet that the mind will not like this. That is why in meditation the mind will try to distract you anyway that it can. The thing is, that once your consciousness takes over control from the mind, your mind will become the efficient, logical tool that it was meant to be.

The attainment of True Wisdom burns away bad Karma, eliminating the need for one to go through the experience. If bad Karma can be burned away, how is this done? By learning to live in harmony with the Divine, one can recieve insight into Life, and see how to Live. True Wisdom is the Insight that reveals all the secrets, and how to become a channel through which blessings flow. Let the blessings of Love & Kindness, & Knowlege flow through you. Be aware. Pay Attention. Do what Love demands of you. In these ways will you step outside the Wheel of Karma.

There is this notion, that carries a Great Truth, that none of our ideas or beliefs really amount to much, except that we give our POWER to them through our acceptance of them. Our acceptance of beliefs into our consciousness, as realities, gives them power over us. Karma is not the only Law of Nature. There are six others, & each is just as powerful as any of the rest. Consider the 6th Law, the Law of Gravitation, (see my article on Metaphysics). You gravitate conditions into your physical life, that are in harmony with your idea of what you deserve. Thus, you have an opportunity here, you may change your attitude about your life, & just what you deserve from life.

You may choose that you deserve health, knowledge, wisdom & love. And those things will come to you, as you you earn them, through being a healer, obtaining knowledge, sharing of your knowledge while you accumulate more, and being real to people, without ulterior motives. Life follows the activity of the mind. Where the mind leads, there follows the pattern of your life. Memory is a good thing, if you use it as a source of information. But if you spend more time dwelling upon the past, rather than in planning for the future, where will your life go?

This reminds me of the story about a philosophy professor. He came to class with a gallon jar, and filled it with big rocks. "Is it full?", he asked the class. The students agreed. Then he sifted in a bunch of pebbles that fit in around the big rocks. "Is it full?", he asked again. The students agreed. Then the professor poured in a lot of sand until the jar was full. "The jar is your life. The big rocks are the most important things in life. The pebbles are important, too, but not as much. The sand is all the trivial stuff. When you are filling the jar of your life, put in the big rocks first, then the pebbles, and finally the sand. If you put in the sand first, then your life will have no room for anything important."

It is the Law of Gravitation. When you accept a thought or belief, you attach yourself to it, and everything that is connected to it. You then resonate on the vibration of that thought, and your subjective mind puts those vibrations out into the Universe. Conditions & situations that are like your worldview become attuned to you, and they begin to happen around you. "And the thing he feared came upon him..." A person who is afraid of, say, car accidents, is much more likely to do something that will get them into a car accident. But someone who drives confidently, and pays attention to what is going on around them, will find a way out, should danger arise.

Negative thinking clouds the mind, & impairs reason. Positive thinking clears the mind, & makes it sharp. If you have the expectation that good things will happen to you, then you will see many opportunities, as they come up. BUT a negative thinker will pass by these opportunities as if they were not there, because their internal inharmony, blinds them to the possibility. "As a man thinketh, so is he".

If you think something is impossible, then you make it a fact in your life. BUT, if you think something is possible, then it is merely a matter of figuring out just how you will do it, to make it a fact. Realizing that the Divine exists within you, makes it possible for you to untie the knots of bad Karma that bind you. When you release your attachment to a negative condition, a Hidden Agenda, then it can no longer hold any power over you, & soon, it will disappear. This is the Magick beyond spells, and you have always held this power within you, because God lives within us, and we live within God. So Mote It Be!!

Human languages were developed, so that people could discuss their surroundings, and activities. They are very much oriented toward dealing with the material world. So it is extremely difficult to speak of non-physical phenomena with language. The most ancient writings of a Spiritual nature used symbolic language. The problem with that, is that unless one knows what the symbols represent, one can only guess at their meaning. Careful Initiation into the Mysteries, and the discovery of your inner connection to the Divine is required, to understand them. Now our languages have evolved considerably with our comprehension of the physical laws of the Universe, and much that was once hidden can now be revealed in relatively plainer language. However, one still must realise that the principles only have meaning when made into realities expressed in your character & life. They are not merely ideas. They are the Archetypes that structure Life.

Completing the circuit is the real Magick trick. You have to make the connection between the positive source & the negative ground. When the circuit is complete, then the power flows, & things happen. With intuition you have to recognize it, & make use of it, to complete the circuit. If you do not heed your intuition, you will have turned the switch off, and you will stop getting flashes of intuition. But if you heed your true Inner Voice, then it will speak to you always, becoming an active part of who you are. If you are on the Path, then you can never be alone, because the whole Universe is within you, & without you....

You know how, when a plane just breaks Mach1, it creates a sonic boom? All this pressure & turbulence builds up, and at the speed of sound, there is the boom, and then the plane moving faster than sound, bypasses all of that as things adjust to its movement for smooth sailing. I think that the time period before a Spiritual or Magickal breakthrough, the same thing occurs. You do almost everything you can think of to get things going the way you want to on a major project, & BOOM.... it all falls apart. When this happens repeatedly, it is because there is a principle you have been missing, that is the key to completion.

Most people know about the Law of Karma, and tend to relate everything to it, but it is not the whole picture. There are seven of these Cosmic Laws, and the results you get in life are directly related to your knowing how to apply them (see my article on Metaphysics). One Law in particular is very important, when dealing with repetitive karmic situations. This is the Law of Gravity. It is a law of attunement. Things that vibrate on the same frequency, are drawn together. What you believe in your inmost Heart about yourself, has tremendous power to gravitate situations similar to your beliefs into your life.

You can organize the best plans, carefully lay out the groundwork, do all of the necissary background research, and put out your whole effort, and still fail. The key to using the Law of Gravity, is to change your attitude about yourself, & what you deserve out of life. Absolute faith in yourself, in your abilities, talents, etc is essential. If you do not believe that you deserve success, then the Universe will not give it to you. If you believe that you are one who can do a great job, but will still be ignored, then that is what you will get. After all the work you have done to learn & apply this knowledge, your own self-image is the only thing that can hold it all back. So you need to develop your faith in yourself, based upon the preparation you have done, and see yourself as a person who is worthy & deserving of all that Life has to offer. BOOM!!

It is mind over matter in all cases. This material universe is an illusion created by consciousness through the Cosmic Laws. All of us are co-creators of the world we live in. When you consider the wide spectrum of Spiritual development of people on Earth, all of their varying belief systems, and the ways they use or mis-use the Cosmic Laws in the conduct of their lives, then this crazy world, actually makes some sense. On the Macrocosmic level, Karma functions exactly as we are taught in all of the Traditions. BUT, on the Microcosmic level, Karma manefests as Chaos, randomness, the uncertainty principle. So depending upon the plane of your perspective, everything happens for a reason, or nothing does. Both possobilities are simultaneous, and neither is mutually exclusive.

I know that the brain manufactures chemicals that are physical analogues of our emotions & moods. These chemicals break down after awhile, but while they are in our system, they do influence us. So you may have gotten yourself into a chemical feedback loop. You are depressed, so your brain manufactures depressing chemicals, which make you feel depressed, etc etc. We know that you can break this chain, because you are asking these questions. Now comes the hard part. Magick is largely the force of will, powered by desire & vision. What you need to do, is to replace the negative thinking with positive thinking. Every time a negative thought enters your mind, you must refuse it, and replace it with a positive thought of harmony or creativity. These positive thoughts will cause the brain to manufacture chemicals corresponding with them. Gradually, the chemicals associated with depression will be pushed out of the system, and be replaced with chemicals of harmony & peace.

Doreal, (founder of the Brotherhood of the White Temple, http://bwtemple.org), said that if a person could spend 24 hours without a single negative thought, that their health would return to the natural state of perfection, and that they would be so clear-minded that they would be able to figure out a solution for any problem that they had to deal with. OK. So that's a little bit tough. People love their negative thoughts, and are very attached to them. And it is very difficult to divorce yourself from something that you love, even when it is killing you. But if you can go for 12 hours a day with no negative thoughts for three days in a row, that should work just as well. Or even 8 hours a day with no negative thoughts for 5 days in a row. The thing is, you need to develop a new mental habit. Refuse the negativity whenever it crops up, and replace it with positivity. Over time, this will become easier, & easier, as the new mental habit becomes entrenched.

What people call normal is an illusion. Is it normal to believe things that are not true? Is it normal to behave in ways that are destructive to yourself & the world around you? Is it normal to live in ignorance? Is it normal to sabotage yourself with negative attitudes? Is it normal to desire harm to people who are different from you? Yet so-called normal people do these things all the time. What people call normal is an illusion. Remember where Socrates said, "The unexamined life is not worth living" ? Does somebody who has never questioned anything, or put out any effort to improve themselves or the world around them, really amount to much? You are only responsible for dealing with your own Karma, BUT you will also get Karma to deal with, from people who have attached themselves to you. Making choises is a difficult process, but with experience, you will begin to see the patterns & their results. It is an excellent Guide. And remember : No one has ever attained Enlightenment without first developing a sense of humor.

If you think that Spirituality with one foot on the ground works well, then wait until you try it with BOTH feet on the ground, your body in the clouds, & your head in Heaven (Qaballistic reference). The completed circuit gives you the perspective to see things as they are, from the whole gamut of perspectives, forcing an alignment of the entire spectrum, & revealing the Truth.

The Law of Motion states that once an object has been put into motion, that it will continue its trajectory unabated forever, unless another force is brought to bear upon it, either changing its motion, or vibration. That's the physical law, but it is also a Cosmic Law, and operates on all planes. A boulder of depression rolling down a hill, is not an easy thing to stop. It requires an equal amount of force moving in the opposite direction to bring it to a halt. A supreme act of Will could do it immediately, but developing a habit of positivity, will gradually slow it down, stop it, & reverse direction.

That is why there are so many different Spiritual techniques out there. You just have to find the ones that work for you. Meditation works for everybody, but it is a slow process. Some people chant mantra, others do Yoga. Nature walks, & hiking rejuvenate many people. There is power in music & dance, and also color therapy. Incense sets a mood of holiness. When the body is out of sorts, the mind doesn't do very well either. A reflexology treatment can remove a lot of tension, and make all of the rest of this much easier. Often people find gardening brings them closer to the Earth. Many kinds of exercise bring people a "high", which carries over into the rest of their life. There are lots of options.

With Karma it works like this. Whenever you do anything in thought, word, or deed, you set up a cause that will return to you as an effect. This cause will alter things around you, and that will also return to you, as a secondary effect. Finally, your motion through the Universe, your activities on all planes of existance, ripple out through the Macrocosm, creating a cascade affecting many things you probably will not be aware of, and this, too, will return to you. I think this is why in Paganism, that they speak of the Law of Three. It is also an excellent reason for cultivating a state of serenity & tranquility, as best you can. Who in their right mind, would want to spend Eternity dealing with a lot of crap? A simple act of kindness, not only helps someone out, but it also puts out a vibe in the aethers, which makes it easier for other people to do the same. Yes, there most certainly is a ripple effect.

Unreasoning & compulsive hatred will eat away your soul, especially when it revolves around the hatred of a group of people based on race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, economic class or national origin. Greed for money as an end in itself, or even worse, greed for power over other people, will consume your soul. And finally, the Dark Side, that malevolent manefestation of the lowest end of the Spiritual spectrum, which inspires destruction, genocide, oppression, and all kinds of fanaticism, is the Eater of Souls.

The Cosmic Laws work equally well for all living things, and it doesn't matter whether people know about them or not to stir them into motion. With people who are very unenlightened, the results are quite chaotic. Negative thinking & action leads to illness, and all sorts of inharmonies. Positive thinking & action leads to health & wider opportunities. So it all comes down to what you know, & how you apply it.

Nothing in this world or on any other plane can ever harm you, unless you have created within yourself a condition that allows it to. In Buddhism there is no force in the universe that is a personification of evil. Buddhists believe that the only evil in the world, is the evil that we harbor within ourselves. In the Buddhist Mandala of the Wheel of Life, there are three animals painted in the center, who are said to keep the Wheel of Illusion going around & around. They are a greedy pig, a strutting cock, and a snake in the grass. They symbolize the lowest of mundane desires : greedy, pride & treachery.

Love is Universal, and a power few completely comprehend. Most people on the Path concentrate on studying the theory & practices & history. This is necessary, but the most important work, is not involved in what we learn, as it is in what we un-learn. All the negativity, illusions, & unworthy desires, that the world dumps into our minds as we grow up, must be rooted out & gotten rid of, before we can make any real progress on the Path. In Buddhism it is taught that the ego is an illusion, and that this world also is illusion. In Western Occult teachings they speak of the lower self, and the Real Self. Overcoming the illusions of the lower self, the ego, allows one to realize the higher Self, ones true identity in the Divine.

That matter is not truly solid, that it is composed of space & fields of energy, is a clear indication that the entire physical Universe is nothing more than an illusion created by Mind. The material world appears solid, but this is an illusion. At the molecular level all separations dissolve into space & fields of energy. In Buddhism, the ego (or lower self), is also considered to be an illusion. All of the aggregates of personality are seen merely to be habits of thinking, with no more substance than matter at the molecular level. The belief in the reality of appearances is what binds us to the cycle of birth & death, and the world of suffering. By divesting yourself of all these false beliefs, one can realize their true identity in the Divine, and know that All is One.

Nothing harmful can affect you, unless you have created a condition in your mind for it to attach itself to you. Altering your perspective on things, changes your vibration, & then the condition cannot attach itself to you. Reality is fluid, and responds to what we put out by the ways in which we think. When people become rigid in their thinking, they bind themselves to conditions, & cannot see a way out of their suffering. Understanding how this process works is the Key by which you can learn to create the conditions of your desires.

The Universe will give you anything you want, but first the Universe looks into your Heart to see what is there. If you attach yourself to turmoil & trouble, then the Universe will give you that. If you attach yourself to peace & serenity, then the Universe will give you that, instead. Force creates resistance. Like a bar of soap in a bathtub, life will be content to rest in your hand, but once you squeeze it really hard, then it will slip away. Grasping AT things, drives them away from you. People do this because of their need to feel that they are in control, when they are not. By learning to control yourself, & understanding the reasons for your motivations, you relax into the flow of life, and gain the ability to steer your own course. Exerting power externally, shows that you lack power & insight internally.

Do not try to effect changes in the outer world, at a time when your inner world is in distress. How could that work? Magick is an act of will, but it must come from a mind that is clear & serene. The conditions that you find occuring in your life, are reflections of your most deeply held attitudes & beliefs. Attach yourself to thoughts of harmony, peace, kindness, strength, wisdom, knowledge & compassion, and these things will find a way to manefest around you in the world. Make the effort to do the inner work, and the external things will take care of themselves. That is the true power of Magick.

Harboring negative thoughts & feelings within yourself, will throw you out of balance. Holding false concepts about Life, will cloud your vision. People dwell so much upon negative things, that it will take all of the meditation & Spiritual Practices that you can do, to break the habit. Allowing the emotions to rule your life, will lead you to be irrational. Letting your intellect to dominate, will make you rigid. Neither of these is balance. Balance is a state of harmony, that gives you a clear perspective on what is important in Life.

Much of human suffering comes from identifying & defining ourselves with external things. All external things are subject to change. They have beginnings & endings. Attachments based upon things which are impermanent, can only lead to suffering. What good can come from defining yourself on the basis of a relationship, a job, status, or things acquired? When things get really complicated, then it is time to make them simple. If you are being pulled in many directions at once, then you need to be at your center. Having a strong center of calm is the Key to gaining control over your life. When you are in your center of calm, then all of the craziness of the world falls into perspective. Things that really aren't important, lose their power to command your attention. The center of calm that you will develop from contemplation & meditation, will enable you to concentrate your efforts on the things that do matter, and from this your life will sort itself out towards what it ought to be.

There are several different sorts of teachers. There are teachers who claim to be Enlightened Gurus, but who are actually only good at manipulating people to satisfy their personal desires, and relieve people of the "burdens of their material possessions". Beware these people. Next you can take Life itself as your Teacher, seeing everything that happens to you, & everyone you meet, to be the conveyor of a Divine message. This is a good teacher, but it may happen that you will not understand the lesson you are being presented with. Then there are the Teachers who have acquired great Knowledge & Wisdom in one or more areas, & who are totally sincere & kind. A few of these are Illuminated Adepts, but most are Initiates of the Mysteries, not quite Enlightened, but close enough. These you should treat as friends. And finally, there is the Teacher within yourself. Your Real Self, is always with you, but is also the hardest to find.

Each of us is an expression of the Great I AM, which is God. All of the Glory, Wisdom, Serenity, Compassion, & Power of the Universe, exists as a potentiality within us, and our job on the Path, is to make this possibility, a Reality, which we manefest in the conduct of our lives. Never refer to yourself as i, because that is to deny the Divinity which exists within all of us, if we would just be willing to see IT. Many times I have been told by Illuminated Adepts, that in any moment, it is possible to realize & manefest Enlightenment.

As you continue making progress on the Path, you will start having more experiences on the higher planes. You may know things, that you cannot account for knowing, get vibes from people, objects, & places. You may travel on the higher planes, having experiences on the Astral Plane or higher. You may become more & more aware of who you have been in the past. All of these things are gifts, and in time, you will view them as normal facets of your life. The purpose of devotional literature, is to raise the Mind above the mundane world, & plant it firmly in the Spiritual Realm. Allowing your mind to focus on fear, guilt, & anxiety creates an unhealthy environment both inside & outside. Some books that will lift your Spirit would be The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, Metaphysical Meditations by Paramahansa Yogananda ( a renowned veggie Yoga Master), The Impersonal Life (published by DeVoss), or The Secret of the Ages by Robert Collier, but I'm sure it is long out of print, having been self-published in 1926. All I am doing, is making clear what you already know in your Heart. When you see these truths in your own Heart, then you bridge the gap between your self, & your Real Self, and what is truly Divine in the Universe can express itself through you.

I could repost James's entire website - it is loaded with valuable wisdom, but it would really make more sense for you to explore it yourself:

Manifesting New Realities

When you search in your life for what is wrong, you become blind to what is right, in those terms. Other events literally become invisible to you. Since basically past and future exist at once, you are at the same time dangerously constructing your future along the same lines.

You are not at the mercy of past beliefs, therefore. On the other hand, the sooner you begin to act upon new ones the better. Otherwise you are not trusting them in the present. If you are poor and want to have more money, and try to maintain a belief in abundance-while still faced with the fact of present poverty-you must in your reality make some symbolic move that shows you are willing to accept a change.

As foolish as it may sound, you should give some money away, or in whatever manner that suits you act as if you did have more money than you physically have. You must respond to your new beliefs, so that neurologically the new message gets across.

You perform habitually in certain manners as a result of your beliefs. Now if you willfully change some of those habits then you are also getting the message across. The initiative must come from you, and in the present. In a very real manner of speaking, this means changing your viewpoint, that particular perspective with which you view your past and present and imagine your future.

You create your own reality. PERIOD.

You must look within yourself for evidences of what you want in terms of positive experience. Examine your past with that in mind.

Imagine your future from the power point of the present.

In such a way at least you are not using the past to reinforce your limitations, or projecting them into the future. It is only natural to contrast what you want with what you have, and it is very easy to become discouraged in so doing, but looking for errors in the past will not help you. A correctly utilized five-minute period of time can be of great benefit, however. In this period concentrate upon the fact that the point of power is now.

Feel and dwell upon the certainty that your emotional, spiritual and psychic abilities are focused through the flesh, and for five minutes only direct all of your attention toward what you want. Use visualization or verbal thought-whatever comes most naturally to you; but for that period do not concentrate upon any lacks, just upon your desire. You are not a victim of life.

Two Wolves

A Grandfather from the Cherokee Nation was talking with his grandson.

"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves."

"One wolf is evil and ugly: He is anger, envy, war, greed, self-pity, sorrow, regret, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, selfishness and arrogance."

"The other wolf is beautiful and good: He is friendly, joyful, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, justice, fairness, empathy, generosity, true, compassion, gratitude, and deep VISION."

"This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other human as well."

The grandson paused in deep reflection because of what his grandfather had just said. Then he finally cried out; "Oyee! Grandfather, which wolf will win?"

The elder Cherokee replied, "The wolf that you feed."

Steps To Freedom - Change What Isn’t Working

We have all had the experience of realizing that something in our lives is not working. This knowledge can come as a sudden realization or a nagging feeling of doubt that grows stronger, waking us up to the fact that something needs to change. Some people have a tendency to act rashly and make sweeping changes before even understanding what the problem is. Other people fear change, so they live with the uncomfortable awareness that something needs to shift but won’t do anything about it. Between these two extreme responses lies a middle way that can help us powerfully and gracefully change what isn’t working in our lives.

The first step is remembering that your life is made up of parts that belong to an interconnected whole. Changing one thing can change everything. Because of this, small changes often have a big effect. Sometimes much bigger changes are necessary, but the only way to know for sure is to take the time to really understand the problem. Examine your life as an entirety—your work, your relationships, where you live—and determine what specifically is not functioning the way you would like. Once you have figured out the problem, write it down on a piece of paper. For example, "I am not happy with my relationship" or "I don’t like my apartment." The next step is to figure out the adjustment you would like to make and how you can go about making this change. If you are unhappy with your relationship because you spend too much or not enough time with your partner, you may want to discuss this problem with them and come up with a compromise. On the other hand, if you realize your relationship is not working to such a degree that it needs to end, begin working through that process. Writing down the truth can be a powerful catalyst for change.

The key to making changes that work is to accept the necessity of change as part of life. As we change, we may find it necessary to fine-tune our relationships, work, and living situations. Our lives are living, breathing entities that reflect our dynamic selves.

Peace

Peace is a term that most commonly refers to an absence of aggression, violence or hostility, but which also represents a larger concept wherein there are healthy or newly-healed interpersonal or international relationships, safety in matters of social or economic welfare, the acknowledgment of equality and fairness in political relationships and, in world matters, peacetime; a state of being absent of any war or conflict. Reflection on the nature of peace is also bound up with considerations of the causes for its absence or loss. Among these potential causes are: insecurity, social injustice, economic inequality, political and religious radicalism, and acute nationalism.

One meaning of peace refers to inner peace, a state of mind, body and mostly soul, a peace within ourselves. People that experience inner peace say that the feeling is not dependent on time, people, place, or any external object or situation, asserting that an individual may experience inner peace even in the midst of war. One of the oldest writings on this subject is the Bhagavad Gita, a part of India's Vedic scriptures.

Sevi Regis describes inner peace as, "the state or condition of restfulness, harmony, balance, equilibrium, longevity, justice, resolution, timelessness, contentment, freedom, and fulfillment, either individually or simultaneously present, in such a way that it overcomes, demolishes, banishes, and/or replaces everything that opposes it."

Mahatma Gandhi's conception of peace was not as an end, but as a means: "There is no way to peace; peace is the way." Gandhi envisioned nonviolence as a way to make a political statement.[citation needed] Judeo-Christian tradition declares "Thou shalt not kill," although there is no consensus on the most accurate interpretation.

Followers of some religions, such as Jainism, go to great lengths to avoid harming any living creatures, including insects. Pacifists, such as Christian anarchists, perceive any incarnation of violence as self-perpetuating. Other groups take a wide variety of stances, many maintaining a Just War theory.

FEAR… YOUR WORST ENEMY

by Philip Holder, Ph.D.

THE SOURCE OF FEAR

Fear is defined in Webster’s dictionary as, "an unpleasant, sometimes strong emotion caused by an anticipation or awareness of danger" or " anxious concern". That may be true but from my experience in my therapy practice I would modify that slightly. I think it more accurate to say that fear is an unpleasant, sometimes strong emotion caused by the anticipation of "loss". It may be a loss of health (disease or damage to the body) or it may be loss of face (damage to the ego, pride, or image). It stands to reason then, that fear increases with an increased attachment to the physical world. It increases as well with a dependence on the approval of others. Fear is also more pervasive when there is a lack of faith that we have greater significance in the universe than what we own, or how others perceive us.

SIGNS OF FEAR

Fear is shown in many ways. Some show fear by withdrawing or by cowering (if you never take a chance there is no risk of loss). The most profound examples of fear are anger and hate..

Some people think that hate is the opposite of love. I disagree. Indifference is the opposite of love. Hate and love are often closely knit. Someone who can deeply affect your life can bring you loss therefore hate and love are often intertwined.

Anger is the primary sign of fear. Those who act out their insecurities as anger are the most fearful of all people. Often those who act "macho" or "bad" are perceived as brave. Look past the façade. Those who act with anger are deeply immersed in fear. When two kids get in a fight, it is fear that spurs them on. It may be fear of looking like a chicken to friends, or loosing their girlfriend (or boyfriend), or it may be fear of physical harm. It is rare that fights occur over reasonable issues. Fear is the catalyst that fuels anger.

THE EFFECTS OF FEAR

There are two areas to consider when contemplating the effects of fear on your life. The first is the physical short term effect and the second is in how fear effects your life in general.

Fear is more than a simply a mental state. If effects both the physiology of the body and the chemical balance of the brain as well. When people are afraid it generates stress. Extreme stress can manifest itself physically in a number of ways. In extreme cases it can cause tunnel vision, loss of color perception (color blindness), it can cause a distortion of both time and of depth perception.

Want a good example of this… Often when someone is involved in a serious auto accident they will describe these effects. They may say, "It was like everything was in slow motion", or, "Everything was in black and white". What they are describing is the effect of stress generated by fear. Fear (and the stress generated by it) will raise blood pressure. It will also deplete the immune system. Fear causes errors in judgment and prevents us from taking the most reasonable course of action.

The long-term effect of fear can be more devastating than the short term. We are all what we practice to be. If you practice baseball every day you will become a good baseball player. If you practice carpentry every day you will become a good carpenter. If you practice being happy every day, you will become happy. If you practice fear (anger) every day, you will become a fearful and angry person. People often train themselves to perpetuate these negative behaviors. There are times when this behavior has been practiced for so long that the person is unaware that they have a problem with fear and anger. It becomes their practiced behavior for dealing with any challenge.

CASTING OUT FEAR

To cast out fear one must first get past the ego. More fear has been created as a result of perceived or anticipated loss of face (ego) than was ever created out of anticipation of loss of physical well being. A great deal of this fear is a result of people’s inability to prioritize. I always suggest that when someone feels himself or herself getting angry that they ask "is this situation really going to have any effect on the overall outcome of my life". In most cases, the answer is no. Place you attention on what is truly valuable. Look at the bigger picture. In this life we own nothing and no one belongs to us. I don’t know who first said it but I truly believe in the old saying, "let go of everything and what remains is what is truly yours". When you are angry, stop and ask yourself what you are afraid of. Only by being honest with yourself about what is causing anger can you take back control of your life from fear and anger.

When I see the mindless things that we adults often argue over, I wonder who the kids really are. Winning a meaningless and petty battle or point can cause you to lose the war. Remember… "Never argue with an idiot. People watching can’t tell who is the idiot". In an argument or confrontation people often lose sight of what the original disagreement was even about. Fear of loosing (or being outdone) takes total precedent over the importance or lack of importance of the original issue. People argue about whose religion is best, what martial arts style is best, who’s the toughest guy or the cutest woman. These arguments are all rooted in fear. Those who are condescending to others, or boastful, exhibit a state of perpetual fear. Someone who is truly centered, confident, and focused has no need for boasting or for petty squabbles. They are too busy doing things that are positive and constructive. The next time that you hear a person degrade or belittle another person, or criticize another martial arts style or instructor, or say destructive things about a colleague, know that it is the person doing the criticizing who is full of fear and insecurity. Anger is born out of fear. Fear is born out of a sense of inadequacy and/or the anticipation of loss. Fearful people are those who take themselves and the material things of the world far too seriously. Life is to be enjoyed by raising ourselves up to meet our personal potential. It has nothing to do with anyone else.

If you cultivate a sense of your spiritual worth, if you understand that there are greater things in this world than what we have or what others perceive us to be, then there is no reason to fear. When fear vanishes, so does anger. When anger is gone, your thoughts become clear. When your thoughts are clear, you function at your best.

Only lazy people attempt to make themselves look better by degrading others. You can practice being brave by being kind. You can practice courage by being tolerant of the beliefs of others. Accept that there is more than one way to accomplish any goal. What is the right way for one may not be the right way for others. Those who think that theirs is the only way, or that they know all of the answers have condemned themselves to ignorance. When you keep an open mind your potential for growth is unlimited. When you are free from fear, you can experience each moment to the fullest. This focused and centered state of mind will help you to excel in anything you undertake. Only by letting go of fear and casting out anger can one truly experience the joys of life.

The Nature of Thought Energy

by Dr. Jeffry R. Palmer Ph.D.

Your thoughts are the currencies with which you exchange energy with the universe. Do you believe that your thoughts have energy? Do you believe that a place or an object can retain the energy of the people that have come into contact with it? If you have ever entered an old home and sensed the presence of its previous occupants, or held an antique item in your hands and felt the history of it, then you know the answers. Scientists are just beginning to accept the truth about thought energy, and have begun to study what many have known for centuries. In fact some of today's leading scientists in areas of physics, biology, psychology and many other fields are starting to recognize the importance of thought energy.
Positive thought energy in the form of collective meditation has been scientifically proven to reduce violent crime!

In 1993 a study encouraged by one the world's leading physicists was undertaken in Washington D.C to determine if focused meditation could have an effect on that city's crime rate. The results were astonishing. During the weeks that several volunteers meditated, crime rates fell dramatically by 25 percent! This was no accident. This was scientifically validated and proven to be an effective means of countering the criminal inclinations of a very large group of people…an entire city in fact.

All Life Is Energy

Thoughts have energy. Negative thoughts create negative events. Positive thoughts create positive results. The energy of thought is either stored in physical structures or is transmitted into the universe, it never dies. Consider what this means. Think about the ramifications.
Where did the clothes you are wearing come from, who made them? Were they manufactured by depressed and impoverished people working in appalling conditions for weeks to make the same amount of money that you spend on a cup of coffee in the morning?

Who built the car that you drive? Was it built by disgruntled and tired factory workers? Where some of those workers alcoholics? Did some of them leave work, go home, beat their wives and children and build your car the next morning? Who built the house that you live in? Who came into contact with the food that you ate today? Starting to get the picture? Everything we come into contact with can hold the thought energy of other people. Even the air that we breathe carries the thought energy of those it surrounds.
What were the thoughts that have been injected into every part of your life? How much has the thought energy of others affected you?

Every thought interacts with the energy of the universe. Negative thought looks for other negatives thought energies to bind with. Eventually a matrix of negative thought energy is created and forms a thought wave. These powerful negative thought waves manifest themselves in our lives in the form of poverty, crime, war, plagues and natural disasters. Negative energy creates a vacuum, it detracts from the life giving nature of the universe Negative thought waves come in many sizes and have been known by many names, bad luck, misfortune, disaster, evil, curses, etc. Call them what you will, the source of their energy is the same. The source is us.

Positive thought energy also seeks out other positive energies. If you are a source of positive thought energy, positive and beneficial energy will return to you in many wonderful and unexpected ways. Positive thought energy creates a surplus; it is the surplus of positive thought energy that allows for the creation of life.

You are the source and creator of all things. Everything that happens in your life has a direct connection with the type of energy that you are charging the universe with. You alone are responsible for the type of energy created by your life.

Becoming aware of the power of your own thoughts is the most important step in understanding how to handle the adverse influence of the negative thought of others.

Knowing the value of positive thought energy allows us to become sensitive to negative energy. We begin to notice it in our own speech, we see it in our relationships, and we notice it in others.

Being aware is the key. Once we are aware of the negative thought energy in our lives we can take measures to eliminate it and replace it with beneficial, healing energy. It is as simple as noticing it and dismissing it with our minds. A thought enters our mind that we recognize as negative, we simply dismiss it. By dismissing negativity we take away its power by not allowing it to manifest further negativity in our lives.

There are of course many other techniques available to combat negative thought energy and create positive abundance in our lives; including focused meditation among others. The critical first step however is simply being aware of the existence and effects of these energies. Hopefully this brief article has helped you to allow that first step to be taken.

Six Tips to Eliminate Drama

by Liara M.
Covert, PhD @ dreambuilders. com. au

Certain emotions create mental obstruction and drama. Relate a clogged toilet analogy. If you choose to get worked up, that does not unclog the obstructon. To bottle anything sets it up for release sometime. You choose how to perceive and react.
Consider these tips to learn more about the constant energy flux of your life and how to eliminate drama;

1) Choose not to believe.
Whatever you think takes form and manifests in your life. If you do not believe in something, then your senses will not permit you to experience that. Yet, if you experience drama, or repeated discomfort, you have not yet uncovered certain mental blocks or dissolved them.

2) Respect your need to grow.
Every event that unfolds, every sensation you feel, helps you move through phases of mental, physical and other healing. To be aware of your rigid mindset enables you to work through unconscious doubt, complaints and illusion that obscure what you perceive now.

3)See through the inner judge.
Labels create imaginary divisons, hierarchies and power dynamics They do not exist. Self-induced boundaries re-organize spatial zones and energy vibration in ways that do not serve you. Being aware of what you do empowers you. Itis possible to evolve and sense what you had missed previously. Ego has reason to deny truth.

4) Nurture open-mindedness.
To disagree or react with distast to people rejects their ways of thinking, being and feeling. To deny or invalidate views other than yours is to close yourself off from layers of truth. To disavow truth is to create waves of energy in form of drama. To accept alternative or co-existent realities, is to concede something other that what you currently experience is connected to the physical world.

5) Recognize the impact of density.
Humans are light energy beings. The nature of thoughts and feelings influences if one experiences a lightness of being or, a heavier sense of existence. Drama weighs heavy on the mind. To be unwilling to adjust or change prolongs emotional storms. You exist as you are to learn to release energy and restore other energy inside.

6) Reframe where this is leading.
Discomfort evokes stress, conflict or striking realism. Yet, more is happening than you consciously register. Many human beings do not realize they acknowledge drama, explore cause and perpetuate it as part of a process to get beyond it. Thoughts of anger, hostility or revenge imply you misunderstand karmic lessons. As you deliberately take responsibility for conditions and choose to evolve, you gain the insight required to transcend drama.

A MODEL OF PRIMARY EMOTIONS

By Robert Plutchick

You are here simply for the experience. You are really not here to learn anything because on a higher level you actually know all that you currently need to know. If you look at the greater picture, you are here to have an adventure - an emotional adventure. No matter how you judge it - good or bad - it's all energy. You are here to have an emotional adventure - to learn to embrace all emotion without judging any of it.
Emotions are ways of dealing with experiences in life, and ways of expressing oneself. E-motion could be described as Energy in Motion. It is the flow of life force that is being expressed by a person.
Emotions expressed in the present as a way of dealing with the present are not good or bad. They are simply a way of dealing with what is there.
Emotions sometimes get frozen and then replayed later, out of context. This often happens in traumatic situations. An overload of emotion gets stored up in the mind, and then it gets activated and repeated at a later time when some of the elements of the situation are a little similar.
A great deal of human trouble comes out of just that: the replaying of emotions in the wrong context. Often people will vehemently defend their right to express their replayed emotions, and will produce elaborate justifications for why the emotions are just and right.
One of the aims of Emotional Clearance is to turn the frozen energy in stored-up emotions into free energy that people can express themselves with in the present.
Electromagnetic field of attractionWhen we embrace an emotional feeling it is received by the brain, which converts it into electrical energy that flows through our body by means of the autonomous nervous system. We can often 'feel the charge' in our body associated with the experience of emotions. When this occurs, an electromagnetic field is generated around our body which attracts to us another person who has an identical electromagnetic field around their body - and the same emotional feeling in their heart.
A person with anger in his heart will encounter many an angry person in his daily activities, giving the impression that he lives in an angry world populated by angry people. And so this illusion will perpetuate itself until higher awareness enables him to change his thoughts/belief system, changing his emotional charge, which changes his field of attraction, and ultimately changes his perception of the world around him.
VictimizationBelieving that something or someone made us feel "bad" gives rise to the concept of victimization. To see yourself as a victim places the responsibility for our feelings onto someone or something other than yourself. The problem with this perception is that if we do not claim responsibility for having manifested and created our feelings, we are unable to change and create new, different feelings of an understanding and positive nature.
SurrenderEach manifestation is an ascension opportunity. All manifestations teach something about oneself and mirrors one's own unconscious state of being. For aspirants upon the spiritual path, each manifestation provides clues as to what needs to be released or cleared in order to continue to ascend.
UnderstandingThere is an inverse relationship between struggling with a problem and understanding the problem. To understand how the emotional system really works allows the resolution of problems without struggle. Our higher emotional states and our precision in monitoring our emotions will help us to experience life through emotions of a higher vibrational nature. A continuance of finer vibrational emotions will assist in realigning our neuron pathways with the additional strands of DNA thus setting our potential free.
Transform through feelingYour mind can grasp intellectual ideas, but it is in the FEELING where the transformation takes place. Have patience with the process of transformation. Do not compare yourself to anyone else. Everyone is shifting in different ways and at different rates of shift.
Perceived realityYour ideas and beliefs about who you are, wrapped in the emotional charge of those ideas and beliefs, create your reality - your every day experience of life. Thoughts require a creative charge of emotion before they can affect your reality. So you may change your ideas of who you are, but until they are wrapped in the joyful emotion of truth, you cannot change your perceived reality.
FearFear is not real. It is only a physical emotion that mirrors the various thought-forms surrounding your outer consciousness. Yet, it is used to shape your outer personality. The easiest way to transform it is to thank the ego self for its deep concerns and then, in a real dialogue filled with compassion and heartfelt love, to transform it into something real.
Wrong IdentityEmotional pleasure or pain are aspects of the mind only. Our essential nature is happiness, but we have forgotten the true self and imagine the body or the mind to be the self. It is this mistaken identity that gives rise to all misery.
Logical confusionLogic is an extremely attractive attribute when one is trying to solve a problem, but logic should have nothing to do with personal expression. Therefore, when it comes to dealing with other human beings, logic has to be replaced by feelings. Emotions are what make us human, so we must learn to feel rather than think our way out of the third dimension.
This means for many, a complete turn around in behaviour. It will soon become obvious that using logical thought processing to analyse information coming from beyond the veil (outside of the third dimension), only confuses the mind. If we want to think clearly and be in tune with the cosmos, then we will have to learn to feel. Feelings are heart driven, and it's in the heart centre where we will locate our compassion. Feelings of love are not held in the brain. We may think with our brain about how we feel, but the feeling itself is held within our heart.
Therefore many of us are now going to have to learn to express ourselves in a completely different way, learning to open up to love and think with our heart - not our head. It is time to let go of the idea that logic holds the key to life and realize that without the ability to express our feelings, we are denying our humanness.
Clearing emotionsThe process of clearing your own emotional restrictions allows you to fully carry light to the planet for the good of all. This is the light that is illuminating the planet and therefore altering the universe for the better. You are only just beginning to see glimpses of who you really are and what that means.
Mastering the Emotions

Our understanding of the emotional system is still in the Dark Ages. Society believes that our emotional feelings are a result of our experiences in our environment. The belief is, “Something happened to make me feel the way I do”. This belief is the exact reverse of how things really work.
Remember the science experiment where you connected the two ends of a wire to the terminals of a dry cell battery? When an electrical charge flowed through the wire a magnetic field was created around the wire. This was demonstrated when we sprinkled iron filings around the wire. A pattern was formed outlining the electromagnetic field surrounding the wire. A charge was set up and attracted the filings to the field.
The nature of any object with a magnetic field around it is to attract to it over a distance of space another object with a similar magnetic field around it.The emotional feeling comes first, and sets up a charge which then results in a corresponding event subsequently drawn into our environment!
Society has the understanding of this relationship backwards. We believe that events happen because we are powerless beings. If the event is perceived as "bad", we will be struck down with a barrage of negative emotions. The event is then blamed for causing the effects - negative feelings such as anger, resentment or depression.
These ongoing dilemmas (of our own creation), have us believing life is one never-ending struggle to survive. Although we may externally struggle with different circumstances and situations, the emotional feelings associated with them are always the same - frustration, resentment, anger, depression, etc., etc. It's like falling into quicksand, and the only way we know to extricate ourselves is to struggle. What we find is that the more we struggle to get out, the deeper we sink.
Focussing on what we don't want, creates more of the sameDoing things we simply no longer wish to do, constitutes compulsive behaviour. The characteristic of compulsive behaviour is that it is reactive in nature. In other words, we do it before we are consciously aware that we've done it. Since we do not like doing it, we get down on ourselves for having done it again. This only serves to feed and increase the intensity of that which we do not like - and so it becomes a stronger force within us, compelling us even more to do it again - and again. Then we get down on ourselves even more - feeding more energy into it so that it comes back even stronger the next time. The more we struggle to get out, the deeper we sink.
There is an inverse relationship between struggling with a problem and understanding the problem. To understand how the emotional system really works allows the resolution of problems without struggle.
To be in this world today is akin to suffering from amnesia, as we have forgotten who we truly are and how we came to be here. Once we again know who we are and understand the process we utilised to get stuck here, we can then reverse the process. This understanding is the key to unlocking the emotional doorway to enter the life of happiness that we deserve to experience.
Accept the body's illness with gratitudeOnce you have made the step of showing gratitude towards your body for the fine job it is doing in guiding you back towards love, your body will begin to release the blocked emotions, or stagnant ideas and beliefs that you have held onto - the beliefs that have acted as the catalyst for illness. As these emotions and beliefs are released, you can begin to experience them in a new way, thus gaining a deeper understanding of the fears controlling your life. With this knowledge and experience, you can begin to understand that fear and love are choices that you can make.
Releasing emotional blocksMost of us have learnt to suppress, ignore or misinterpret our emotions. So, like children, our emotions find more compelling ways of getting our attention - frequently through the creation of stress, or in severe cases through psychological or physical disease.
When you find yourself face to face with powerful emotions, such as anger, jealousy or fear, it takes courage to willingly experience them fully. However, these emotions need acknowledgment. They need to be felt and acknowledged; for in order to go beyond them we must go through them.
A place of "No-Mind"By fully experiencing and going beyond an emotional block - through the layers of doubt and fear - you experience the emotion of who you truly are . . . you experience your essential nature . . . your boundless eternal Self.
This as a place of ‘no-mind’. To experience the essence of your true self is a wonderfully healing experience. Various techniques can be used to deepen the healing effect and strengthen the transformation, ensuring lasting change.
Emotional Clearing requires people to find the courage to embrace their emotional blocks; dissolving them before they impact on the body and adversely affect physical well-being.
To unconditionally forgive someone is difficult to learn when emotions have not been let go. Allow your emotions to come, do not suppress them - then let them go away as soon as they come.
When you have learned how to handle your emotions, you can begin to forgive unconditionally by sending light and love to the person you are trying to forgive, and picture yourself talking to that person and telling him that you can and do forgive him. You may have to do this a number of times, until your forgiving is from your heart, unrestricted and without accusation and conditions. It is important that you go through this process of forgiving, because as long as you cannot forgive, you keep yourself tied with this person through karma, and these ties can slow you down dramatically, so much so that your life can be influenced on many levels and come to a stand-still until you let this other person go by forgiving him.
Your Feelings are your friendsLet your feelings guide you, for they are your friends. Any negative emotion about any subject whatsoever, indicates that you have a negative belief about it somewhere. Through listening to your feelings, you can bring into consciousness the belief connected to the feeling. Feelings and your intuition are your built-in guidance system. Trust what you FEEL. Your feelings are a better indicator of truth than your minds, which can be led off in many directions, pursuing this theory or that, but which are disconnected from the direct EXPERIENCE of truth. Feelings are the directional impulses of your soul. Your soul always wants you to go into the direction of greater joy. There are only two true emotions that you can experience and feel - the emotion of love and the emotion of fear. All other emotions are satellite emotions gravitating towards love or fear. Love is expansive, it encourages you to be all that you can be, it empowers you, and it removes limitation. Love is not jealous, angry, or afraid. Love does not question. Love is accepting.
Fear, on the other hand, is limiting. It drains you of life force energy. Fear prevents you from moving forward. Fear is limiting, blind and short sighted. Fear is death itself.
An exerciseThe physical unit that is your body, responds to the energies that love and fear bring with them. The emotions of love and fear have a direct influence on your nervous and muscular system. Hold any negative thought or belief in your consciousness for a few seconds, and notice what happens to your body. Do you tense up, or do you feel expanded and more aware? What happens to your breathing? Do you breath in a deep and relaxed fashion, or are your breaths short and a little hurried? These are simple exercises in bringing into consciousness those ideas and beliefs that are serving your growth, and those you would do better to transmute and release.
When you combine the focus of your intellectual mind with the impulses that are given to you by your feelings, you cannot help but expand who you are. Feelings are the directions of your soul, and you can use your intellectual mind as a tool to focus your thought on your direction. If all your focussed thoughts followed your inner feelings, your life would be abundant and joyful beyond all imagining.
Using DesireIt is not enough to simply think about having something that you want to bring into your life - you need to have a strong emotional desire for it. Desire is feeling. If you find yourself changing your mind about what it is that you are wanting, you are not truly listening to your feelings.
For you to successfully create the things you want in your life, you have to desire them. Desiring them is not the same as needing them. Need is based on the feeling of lack, and when you concentrate on lack, you repel the very thing you are seeking. Whatever you focus on will expand and grow, be it abundance or lack.
The Law of Attraction will bring you whatever you concentrate upon. So if you concentrate on what you don't want, you will get more of the same. The Universe cannot operate in any other way.
Challenging the emotionBecome aware of your fears, anger, and jealousy. Beneath every fear is pain. It is easier to become angry with someone else, or yourself, or the world, than to feel this pain. Simply recognizing when you are angry is only half the story. You must go to the root of the emotion, which is a part of yourself that you do not know about, or a part of which you are too frightened or ashamed to acknowledge.
Learn to become aware of how your body feels when certain fears arise, and what thoughts fill your mind. You will then be able to see it as an old acquaintance with whom you have a disagreement. The disagreement being that you do not want to feel the way you are feeling, so you push it away. This is where challenging your emotion comes in.
Challenging an emotion – which is really challenging the part of yourself where the emotion originates, is not a declaration of war. It is a clear statement of your intention. For example, you may affirm, “I challenge this emotion. I no longer want it in my energy system,” . Challenging an emotion is the decision to utilise your free will to change an aspect of yourself you no longer want in your life. No matter how you do it, challenging the part of yourself that you want to change is at the heart of spiritual growth. You cannot be a spiritually evolved person and an emotionally unevolved person at the same time.
The first time you challenge your anger, fear, or jealously, it will not disappear. You must challenge it again and again and again. Eventually, it will loose its power over you, and you will regain your power. You must challenge the parts of yourself that you want to change using your free will.
Growing older does not automatically mean growing kinder or wiser. Millions of people die angry, frightened, envious etc, etc. Unless you heal the parts of yourself that are causing you pain, they will not change. This is because no one can change them but YOU!
Learn to experience feelingFeeling occurs as initiates retrieve their emotional and intuitive bodies in full. Feeling is important to the act of ascension. Soul collects records and experience in ascension not through language, but through the act of feeling. Emotions are the main language that soul understands. Furthermore, no emotions equals no communication with All That Is. And one wonders sometimes why one's prayers may seem unanswered! It is because without an emotional or intuitive body, one lacks the very components necessary to communicate with soul or All That Is. How can one appreciate nature, a beautiful sunset, a beach, a redwood forest, a snow-capped mountain, if they do not feel? And what happens when one doesn't feel? They become bored and seek out entertainment through consumerism to fill the void. And so in learning to feel, one shall cease to depend upon entertainment or consumerism to feel alive, and shall experience authentic love. Authentic love comes not from entertainment or consumerism, but from soul dancing with soul. And soul can only be felt dancing with the form through the emotions. And as one learns to feel, one may feel the pain at first, but sooner or later one will also feel the love and soul and begin to be loved from the inside out. In becoming loved from within, one will cease to need to purchase anything to feel loved, and shall move off the treadmill of consumerism.
The whole earth reality is a like an educational play in which you are the producers as well as the actors. The conscious self dwells within this reality while other aspects of your identity dwell simultaneously within other training systems. The emotional lessons we undergo here must be learned well because in the more advanced systems into which we will evolve, thoughts and emotions are automatically and immediately translated into action and matter. It is here on earth where we must be taught and trained to create responsibly. If the sorrows and agonies within this system were not felt as absolutely real, the lessons would not be learned. Many of the current teachers within this system are undergoing their final incarnation, while other personalities who have left the system have volunteered to help and guide those still operating within it.
The easiest way to advance spiritually is to be open-minded, to seek and think for yourself, and be prepared to learn from and serve others. Your spirit has deemed this body and this lifetime as appropriate for the completion of these tasks.

The 50% Solution

by James Clair Lewis

"One for me, and one for you. Two for me, and two for you."
It is a deceptively simple formula, but when properly understood, it is one that will change the world. The idea is to balance personal and universal motivations. When you do this, you will be able to take care of all of your own needs, and at the time time, be able to do much to ease the suffering in the world. It happens with some people on the Spiritual Path, that they devote so much effort into furthering Enlightenment in the world, that they completely exhaust themselves, and collapse. At that point they really aren't any good for themselves, or for anybody else, until after they recover. This is why it is better to balance your efforts both personally, and universally. The balance ensures that you will not burn out, and that you can sustain everything you are doing, thus enabling you to accomplish much more.
Now when you do as much for others, as you do for yourself, people become more inclined to attend to your needs. You don't even have to ask, quite often, because they will want to help you out. This turns out to be as good for them, as it is for you. The mutual support becomes greater than the efforts of all of the individuals involved put together.
It also makes the activities of entirely selfish people, much more apparent. Selfish people get what they want, by taking away from others. They bully and manipulate. Such things are not condoned in a community based upon mutual support. In this way the selfish isolate themselves, eventually losing all that they have stolen from others.
As Humanity grows up, these networks of mutual support will grow and spread around the world. Poverty and Injustice will vanish from the face of the Earth forever. Now you might wonder just when these things will come to be. Actually, the process is already well underway, as evidenced that you are reading this, and now these ideas are within your mind, just waiting for you to implement them

RETURN TO TRANSCENDANCE

by Scott Rabalais

Understanding the needs and desires of the human being is a complex issue. One psychologist who attempted to categorize and hierarchize human needs was Abraham Maslow. Though disputed by some, his "Hierarchy of Needs" provides a simple model that attempts to explain the various basic and profound needs of the human being.

Maslow's theory is based on the premise that higher needs cannot be attended to until lower needs are thoroughly satisfied. Maslow states that the most basic needs of humans are biological and physiological, that is, air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sleep, sex, etc. Showing needs as ascending steps up the model, the Maslow diagram includes safety, belongingness and love, esteem, cognitive, aesthetic and self-actualization needs. It makes sense that a person who has inadequate food and drink will likely not give a lot of attention to his cognitive or self-actualization needs until such basic needs are largely satisfied.

A revised model of the hierarchy of needs was offered in the 1990s. This model included a need beyond self-actualization called "Transcendence. " (See here [businessballs. com/maslowhierarchyofneeds8. pdf] for a view of the adapted eight-level "Hierarchy of Needs" diagram, based on Maslow's theory.) While self-actualization can be defined as a growth motivation or the desire to fulfill one's potential, transcendence adds a deeply interpersonal element to self-actualization. The transcendent one is interested in helping others to self-actualize. In other words, one who has made the complete journey is not completely fulfilled until he turns around and assists others on the journey.

Of course, the experience of transcendence is not the only level from which one can assist others. There are those who assist others with obtaining food and shelter, improving family relationships and achieving a high level of proficiency in various activities -- all equally important in the journey up the mountain of life. There are a virtual endless number of possibilities that exist in assisting others in their journey.

The experience of unity consciousness is a fulfillment of the human need for self-actualization. It is comparable to the mountain climber reaching the summit, achieving his destination and surmounting all of the elements of the journey. It is seeing from a higher vantage point than he has ever seen before. It is the expansion of his awareness and understanding to a state heretofore unknown. It is a realization of wholeness, completeness and oneness. It is the experience of unity.

So where does the self-actualized climber go from the top of the mountain? Standing alone at the top, he knows there are others who are climbing the mountain as well. He longs for others to experience the grand feeling of standing at the summit and wishes to stand at the mountaintop with others so the view can be shared. His desire is for others to know the grandeur of the summit and that the cost of the journey up the mountain is worth the benefits gained at the top. He recognizes that the next step in his journey is to be of assistance to those who long for the mountaintop experience. As he has been assisted along the way, now, he can help show the way.

It is an innate need of the climber to experience the summit. It is not an experience that can be assimilated from hearing the stories of others, no matter how eloquently they are told. There is no timeline, no schedule and no need to hurry. There exists only the need to take one step at a time, to savor that step and then to move on to the next step.

He who has reached the mountaintop is interested in assisting only those who desire the assistance. He does not impose himself on another, yet is accessible and available to all. His joy is in freely giving of his experience and himself. He is there to point the way, to assure the climber of the joy and value in the climb. But it is the climber who must climb.

There are many to assist in the climb -- at every step of the way. Though versatile, the transcendent one is most adept at working at the higher levels of the mountain, nearer the summit. It is he who has had recent experience in the final steps to the top, where both teachers and climbers are fewer. The climb near the top is fresh in his experience and he can lend encouragement to those who are taking those final steps in the fiercest of elements. He has ultimate respect for the climber and for those who are assisting in the climb, for his purpose in intertwined with the purposes of others.

The transcendent one still attends to his "levels" of needs, though his predominant interest is in the climb of others, which he now sees as the climb of himself, or, more accurately, as the climb of humanity. He is humanity, and as humanity goes, so he goes. He is an agent of the climb and in service to the climber. There is room at the top of the mountain for all of humanity, and to this vision he dedicates himself.
